In the world of Panama Hats, quality is measured by the fineness of the weave, determined by the number of strands or weaves per square inch. Each category represents a distinctive level of craftsmanship, from everyday wear to exceptional pieces.
Grade 1-2
Standard
Cuenca/BrisaBasic weave, fewer weaves per inch (100-200). Ideal for daily wear. Less flexible.
Crafting time: 1-2 days
Weave Counting Method
Selection of a weave section
A representative part of the hat is chosen.
Measurement of one linear inch
A ruler or precise measuring instrument is used.
Counting the weaves
The number of times a straw strand completes an interweave in that inch is counted.
